Meet Maalu
Maalu has been an apprentice for 6 months in this trade and is looking forward to making a livelihood out of it.
Fugu
Fugu is a handwoven textile from Northern Ghana, predominantly hand-stitched into the smock outfit, traditionally worn by kings, warriors, and elders. Its thick, tightly woven cotton threads are crafted on narrow strip looms and stitched together to form wider cloths that can then be designed into different fashion pieces. Each strip reflects strength, identity, and resilience, values deeply embedded in Northern Ghanaian culture. Wearing Fugu is not just a fashion statement; it’s a way of carrying centuries of craftsmanship and heritage.
Kente
Kente
Kente is one of Africa’s most iconic textiles, originating from the Ashanti and Ewe peoples of Ghana. Woven with radiant silk and cotton threads on narrow looms, Kente cloth embodies messages through its colors and intricate patterns. Each motif is a proverb; each hue holds meaning. Traditionally reserved for royalty and special ceremonies, today Kente celebrates pride, dignity, and continuity of cultural legacy across the globe.
Sustainability & Impact
Every fashion piece carried by Eko Chique is thoughtfully created through slow, artisanal processes that honor both people and planet. The cotton is handwoven using age-old techniques that minimize waste and rely on human skill rather than industrial machinery. By partnering directly with artisans, we support fair livelihoods, preserve endangered weaving traditions, and champion circular fashion values where clothing are valuable long-lasting assets. Your purchase supports entire craft communities, preserves cultural stories, and contributes to a more ethical fashion ecosystem.
